Have the gear and want to try camping by bike? Join Mel on an overnighter to Fay Bainbridge to kick off the summer bike camping season! Ideal for beginner bike campers. There are limited spots, but we'll have another opportunity if you can't join.

This sub-24 hour camping trip is a great way to get acquainted with hiker/biker campsites, taking the ferry, navigating via a predetermined route, and riding with a fully loaded bike. 

Our meetup point is Westlake Park, which is easily accessible via light rail and other public transit. Meet at 5:30 to get to know your fellow riders, safety briefing and roll out promptly at 5:45PM on May 25th. 

All riders must be fully vaccinated, able to repair a flat tire or puncture, and comfortable sharing the road with cars.

What kind of bike do I need?

Any bike that you can ride 10 miles a day and carry your gear. 

What is included?

In addition to organizing the routes and details, we'll be providing 

  • Reserved campsites at Fay Brainbridge. You'll be sharing the reserved site with other people.
  • Guidance and help along the way: This is an intro to bike packing and we'll make sure you have support when figuring out the finer points with us.  If you have questions, don't hesitate to ask. 

What is not included

  • General Ride Snacks or food for special diets - Make sure you have enough food to get through the day
  • Transportation of your gear - You'll need to ride with your own camping gear. If you have questions or concerns on this, let us know.  
  • Ferry Tickets - Cost is $10.25 round trip for you and your bike. 

What to bring

  • Bike gear: This includes things like your bike, helmet, packs and lights.
  • Shelter: Remember your tent, tarp, bivy, etc.
  • Sleep system: A sleeping bag and pad are the two must-have items.
  • Water: We'll have back-up water. 
  • Clothing: You'll want clothes for riding, like bike shorts, jerseys, socks, bike gloves, and clothes for camp, such as underwear, a warm hat etc. 
  • Navigation: Bring a GPS and/or smartphone or a map. 
  • Hygiene/toiletries: Bug spray, sunscreen, lip balm, toothpaste and toilet paper.
  • Bike repair tools: Spare tubes, a patch kit, pump, tire levers and a mult-tool.
  • First-aid supplies: The basics: bandages and pain-relief pills.
  • Miscellaneous: Food, a headlamp, sunglasses, a camera, etc.
